Reports have emerged on social media suggesting that Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai, renowned international evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, has passed away.
The unconfirmed reports began circulating on Monday after Prophet Joel Ogebe posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter), which read:
“A giant has gone to be with the Lord. My father, my father, the chariot of Israel. Heaven rejoices. Uyo.”

Although Ogebe did not directly mention any name, the post quickly drew attention online, with many users speculating that it referred to Rev. Ukpai, whose ministry headquarters is located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Shortly afterward, a Christian media platform, Church Gist, also shared a post on Facebook announcing the cleric’s alleged passing. The post read:
“A GENERAL TAKES A BOW! EVANGELIST UMA UKPAI HAS GONE TO BE WITH THE LORD. REST IN POWER, SIR.”
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by Ukpai’s family or the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association confirming the development.
Rev. Uma Ukpai, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost evangelists, is known for his decades of ministry, evangelistic crusades, and humanitarian outreach across Africa and beyond.
