Everton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed he is interested in signing Manchester United forward Memphis Depay.
Former United boss Louis van Gaal signed Depay, 22, from PSV Eindhoven in 2015 but the Netherlands international has struggled to meet expectations at Old Trafford despite glimpses of his potential.
Depay has started only one game in all competitions since Jose Mourinho took over in the summer and he is reported to be surplus to requirements, with Everton among the clubs linked.
Asked about the attacker, Koeman told Fox Sports’ “De Tafel van Kees” programme: “I would like to sign him. I think he’s an interesting player. He has great individual qualities.
“He just needs to play games.”
He added: “At the start of his time at Manchester United, he showed how good he is.”
Depay finished the 2014-15 season with PSV as the Eredivisie’s top scorer and he had been linked with a number of elite clubs, including Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Koeman said he had also tried to sign Depay when he was in charge of Southampton but added: “He chose Manchester United, which was a logical choice.”
The Everton boss also said recently he would be interested in signing United captain Wayne Rooney.
