The embattled former Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, has warned that Governor Sim Fubara is creating challenges for himself, which could harm his political prospects ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Okocha criticized Fubara’s actions, hinting that efforts would be made to weaken the governor’s standing in the state.
“Fubara is creating problems for himself. It is our business to de-market him and his party so we can win in 2027,” he stated.
The political rift between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike has persisted despite interventions from President Bola Tinubu and other political stakeholders.
However, Wike, now a minister, has expressed willingness to resolve the conflict peacefully—provided that Fubara follows the rule of law.
Reflecting on Fubara’s rise to power, Okocha noted that it was Wike who made his governorship possible, emphasizing the governor’s lack of a political background.
“Fubara was never a politician; it was Wike who made it possible for him to emerge as governor,” Okocha said.
Okocha further asserted that Wike’s political structure remains unshakeable in Rivers State. “For the next 10 years, I don’t see any politician dismantling Wike’s political structure.
It’s not possible—not so soon,” he declared. “I’m not God, but I’m talking about what is within human possibility. Let’s leave it there.”
