Phrank Shaibu, a former aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has taunted President Bola Tinubu over the escape of one of the detained Binance executives.
Shaibu ridiculed Tinubu, alleging that he has turned Nigeria’s detention centers into amateur magician training grounds, following the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s Africa regional manager.
Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan were initially detained upon their arrival in Nigeria on February 26, 2024, on allegations of tax evasion and other charges.
Their detention was extended due to Binance’s non-compliance with a court order demanding data on Nigerian traders.
Anjarwalla managed to escape from a guest house in Abuja on Friday, March 22, where he and his colleague were held, reportedly during a visit to a nearby mosque for Ramadan prayers.
Despite Nigerian authorities holding his British passport, he is believed to have left Abuja on a Middle Eastern airline.
Shaibu, in a post on X, sarcastically referred to Anjarwalla’s escape as another thrilling episode of “Nigeria’s Got Escapes,” criticizing the administration for transforming detention centers into what he termed amateur magician training grounds.
He quipped about the escape being part of a series, jokingly naming potential future episodes like “Escape from Nigeria: The Sequel” or “Nigeria’s Got Talent: The Fugitive Edition.”
