Andrew Emwanta, former Edo State commissioner for information, has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of harboring a third term ambition.
Emwanta made this claim during an interview with Arise TV on Monday night while reacting to the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
The Edo State Assembly impeached Shaibu on Monday following reports from a seven-man panel led by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd) investigating the impeachment petition against the deputy governor.

According to the panel’s report, the allegation of perjury against the deputy governor was not proven beyond reasonable doubt, while the disclosure of government official documents was proved beyond reasonable doubt.
Emwanta, who was an appointee of Governor Obaseki, alleged that his former boss colluded with assembly members to remove Shaibu to facilitate his third term agenda.
He stated, “The reason Philip Shaibu is being kicked out is because they see him as a threat. Edo people will decide if Obaseki will be allowed the opportunity to continue because he wants a third term by all means.
He feels that removing Shaibu is the best way to achieve his third term ambition.”
