Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has called on the judiciary, the people of Edo State, and Nigerians to stand with him amidst his impeachment crisis.
The Edo State House of Assembly impeached Shaibu on Monday, April 8, 2024, following allegations of misconduct and perjury leveled against him by the state lawmakers, based on the reports of a seven-man panel set up by the chief judge of the state, Justice Daniel Okungbowa.
Following the impeachment, Governor Godwin Obaseki immediately swore in Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor of the state.

Reacting to his impeachment, Shaibu described it as illegal and asserted that he would not be deterred or intimidated by the development.
He called on well-meaning Edo citizens and Nigerians who believe in democracy and justice to stand with him, emphasizing the need to prevent tyranny and oppression from prevailing.
Shaibu stated, “Let it be clear that this impeachment was hatched because of my ambition to contest the Edo State 2024 governorship on the platform of PDP, an ambition that is a legal right of all citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
He vowed to fight for the people of Edo State and the future of democracy in the country, expressing confidence that the legal system would vindicate him.
Shaibu urged his followers to remain calm and continue their lawful duties, assuring them that he is committed to seeking justice.
