Popular comedian AY Makun has said that he took huge financial risks to become a Nigerian filmmaker. He recently described his recent Trailblazer win at the Silverbird Man of the Year Award as a deeply humbling recognition, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, the award is further validation of many years of risk-taking, innovation and consistency in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Advicing aspiring creatives, the comedian emphasised the importance of discipline, preparation and understanding the business side of entertainment.
His words, “It is deeply humbling. This award validates years of risk-taking, innovation and consistency. Being recognised as a trailblazer tells me that daring to expand beyond comedy into filmmaking and live entertainment was worth it. It is not a destination for me; it is motivation to keep raising the bar.
Build capacity before chasing applause. Talent is not enough. Learn the business, stay disciplined, remain consistent and never rely on shortcuts. Nigeria is challenging, but it rewards resilience and structure.”
