The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has described the expulsion of former Governor Ayo Fayose from the party as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Oluyede said the PDP would not allow Fayose to derail the structure being strengthened by stakeholders ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Speaking with journalists after a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the Australia-based medical doctor said the party in Ekiti remains united and stronger than ever, despite Fayose’s alleged anti-party activities.

He accused the former governor of undermining the PDP for over three years and urged him to accept responsibility for his actions.
Oluyede also called on the Tunji Odeyemi-led State Executive Committee to constitute a reconciliation committee to pacify aspirants who lost the governorship primary to him, as well as other aggrieved members.
On the crisis within the national leadership of the PDP, Oluyede dismissed fears that it would affect the party’s fortunes in Ekiti, insisting that politics is local.
“Parties always have issues anywhere in the world. I have no issues with the national crisis; I’m not running for national office.
All I need is Ekiti people behind me, and that’s what we are going to get,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Fayose, he added:
“If you have been a leader for eight years and people depend on you, you shouldn’t sell them short. He has a choice — he can return and we will welcome him.
But if he chooses to stay out and plans to bulldoze the party, we will not allow him. If he throws dirt at us, we will send it back. Nobody builds a house and then destroys it.”
He insisted that the party in the state has no faction and is moving forward.
In his remarks, the Ekiti State PDP Chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, urged members to intensify mobilisation at the ward and unit levels to ensure victory for the party in the 2026 governorship election.
He pledged to work tirelessly until the PDP reclaims power in the state.
