Former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has lambasted Ayekooto Akindele, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), over his comments on opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
Akindele had criticised Atiku and Obi, alleging that neither had ever won an election in Nigeria. Responding in a statement on Wednesday, Eze dismissed the remarks as “attention-seeking, utter rubbish, foolish and a high display of market day ignorance.”
He argued that Nigeria has yet to conduct credible elections that would justify such comparisons, stressing that Akindele’s statement was misleading.

“The insinuation by Akindele that Amaechi has not won any election since Wike left him is provocative and a gutter narrative to score cheap popularity,” Eze said.
He maintained that Akindele’s comments only exposed his ignorance of Amaechi’s role in Nigerian politics, recalling that the former Rivers governor twice served as Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign, which successfully delivered Muhammadu Buhari as president.
“Has Amaechi contested any election since leaving Rivers Government House? If you mean the APC presidential primaries, that was a charade sold to the highest bidder. If that is what you call an election, then you are totally ignorant,” he added.
Eze further noted that even Wike, Amaechi’s long-time political rival, had on several occasions publicly admitted that Peter Obi won in Rivers State during the 2023 general elections but credited Bola Tinubu instead.
He urged the public to disregard Akindele’s comments, describing them as “a heinous fallacy” aimed at generating cheap attention.
