The Ekiti State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has faulted the outgoing governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, for reportedly denying to have conceded victory to the PDP candidate in the June 21 governorship election, Mr. Ayo Fayose.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Kola Oluwawole, said Fayemi’s “sudden reversal of his concession” showed the political inconsistency of his party, the All Progressives Congress.
The state PDP spokesman said the party never took the governor serious when he accepted defeat.
According to him, Fayemi’s claims that he made the now famous concession speech then in order to reduce tension and save Ekiti from blood spilling is a demonstration of the governor’s garrulous arrogance because he knew that nobody would have raised a finger even if he was rigged out.
The party said, “The double talk of the outgoing governor is a symptom of wild frustration, hence it took Fayemi a month to wake up from the other side of the bed to insult the intelligence of Ekiti people by saying that he has not said he conceded defeat.
“How do you describe a Fayemi who congratulated a person who defeated him in an election that was adjudged to be free fair and peaceful by both Nigerian and International communities to come out after a month to changed gear and be saying the opposite”.
The statement added, “We can recall the incidence of 2003 when Dr. Ayo Fayose defeated the godfather of Governor Kayode Fayemi and the incumbent Governor then, Niyi Adebayo, he conceded defeat and congratulated the PDP candidate but later went to tribunal where he equally failed. So this time around the story will not be different as Fayemi will also fail at the election petition tribunal”.
