Lere Olayinka, a media aide to former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to make a sacrifice and support Peter Obi’s presidential bid in 2027.
Olayinka made the statement in response to an X (formerly Twitter) user, Mfaarees, who suggested that Obi should accept a Vice Presidential role under Atiku to form a formidable opposition.
Olayinka, however, argued that Obi has the capability to lead Nigeria, emphasizing that both he and Atiku together could defeat oppressive forces in the country.
Mfaarees had posted, “Peter Obi has what it takes to save this country. If he really cares about Nigerians, he should accept the VP slot with Atiku as President. They’re the only people who can defeat this great force of tyranny.”
In response, Olayinka suggested that Atiku should step aside for Obi, stating, “Why can’t @atiku also make a sacrifice and support @PeterObi for President?”
Olayinka’s comments come amid proposed merger discussions among opposition leaders, aimed at building a stronger front against the ruling party.
However, Katchi Ononuju, a PDP chieftain, dismissed the idea of Obi running as a Vice Presidential candidate to Atiku, indicating a firm stance from some party leaders on Obi’s position in the opposition alliance.
