Abuja (State House Report) – The Federal Executive Council at its fortnightly meeting held on June 4, 2014 at the Presidential Villa, Asokoro, Abuja has assented to the award of contract for consultancy services on the Shore Protection and Rehabilitation of Escravos Breakwaters and Greenfield Port Development.
While briefing State House Correspondents after the Federal Executive Council Meeting, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku told reporters that the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala tabled a memorandum seeking the Council’s approval to obtain an International Development Association (IDA) credit in the sum of USD42.3 million (Forty-two Million, Three Hundred Thousand Dollars) as additional finance for the Lagos-Eko Secondary Education Project.
Labaran Maku also reported that the loans will further improve public finance operations, develop physical infrastructure and promote qualitative secondary education as well as acquisition of highly-needed skills for the labour market and reduction in the rate of poverty in Lagos State. He noted that the Council ratified the award of contract for the operation, maintenance and training of staff for WUPA Basin Sewage Treatment Plant with a completion period of 20 months.
According to him, the Council after deliberations approved the award of contract for the commissioning of consultancy services for shore protection and the rehabilitation of the Escravos Breakwaters and Greenfield Port Development at Ogidingbe, Delta State for the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to Messrs Royal Haskoning DHV with a completion period of 8 months, inscribing some benefits accruing from the project.
The Minister informed that the Council during the meeting resolved that making statements to the press on issues for which they had no authority and citing the recent incorrect statement by a member to a foreign media organization on military matters should not be practiced. He also observed that making unauthorized statements, especially on sensitive national issues is capable of embarrassing the Government and undermining national interests.
