The Office of the Head of Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has approved the restructuring of the Federal Ministry of Education into eleven Departments and six Units with the creation of two additional departments. The approval was contained in a letter dated 16th April, 2013 with Ref. No. OE&MS/MSO/82/T/101.
The Ministry, in line with the reform process of the MDAs, reviewed the organizational structure and requested among others, the restoration of the Department of Educational Support Services.
The eleven Departments are Human Resources Management; Finance and Accounts; Procurement; Basic and Secondary Education; Tertiary Education; Federal Inspectorate Services; and Technology and Science Education.
Others are Information and Communication Technology; Education Planning, Research and Development; Education Support Services; and Federal Scholarship Board.
The Units are Legal; Press and Public Relations; Internal Audit; Reforms (SERVICOM and Anti-Corruption); Gender; and Public-Private Partnership.
The letter also conveyed the approval of the first generation Federal Government Colleges, and those with student population of 1800 and above to be headed by Principal, (Special Grade) on Salary Grade level 17.
Equally, the Principal/Directors in the Federal Government Colleges are to participate in the National Council on Education and Joint Consultative Council on Education Meetings.
