Federal Labs & Industry Partners Aim to Accelerate Innovation for Economic Impact at the 2014 FLC National Meeting
This year’s FLC national meeting, from April 21 – 23, in Rockville, Md., aims to accelerate innovation for economic impact. This year’s agenda features: technology transfer training courses; a human element panel; over a dozen agency and industry exhibitors; accomplished keynote speakers; and various networking opportunities for industry and tech transfer professionals.
Rockville, MD, April 09, 2014 –(PR.com)– This year has been charted with the unfolding of several White House technology initiatives that involve leveraging the groundbreaking work of the nation’s federal laboratories. In 1986, the Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer (FLC) was mandated to pursue these initiatives by facilitating the movement of technologies from labs to the marketplace, strengthening research and development by streamlining technology transfer (T2) procedures, and increasing industry partnerships and collaborations. And, given the theme of this year’s FLC national meeting, “Accelerating Innovation for Economic Impact,” coupled with its nearby capital setting at the North Bethesda Marriott in Rockville, Maryland, this year is no exception.
From April 21-23, attendees from federal agencies and laboratories, T2 industry professionals, patent attorneys, licensing professionals, scientists, and others who make up the diverse FLC community will converge in Rockville for three days of T2 training, informative panel discussions, a networking and industry day, and the annual FLC awards banquet and reception.
Along with various government agency speakers who will share their T2 experiences, newcomers and attendees will hear keynote addresses from Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland’s 8th District; John Serafini, Vice President of Allied Minds; and Daryl G. Pelc, Vice President of Engineering & Product Support for Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s Global Services & Support.
Anticipated highlights for this year’s national meeting include Tuesday’s “human element” panel, which will showcase collaborative federal and/or industry partnerships that have produced tangible benefits to the public and society’s wellbeing through the technologies and systems they develop. Another agenda item that should garner plenty of participation is Wednesday’s Industry Day, when representatives from various federal agencies, labs and research centers, along with numerous professionals from industry and academia, are provided the opportunity to network, initiate potential partnerships, and discover participating company technology needs.
The following organizations will be exhibiting at this year’s national meeting: Montgomery Economic Development, Montgomery County College, Knowledge Sharing Systems, U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Promet Source, Brainspace, Journal of Visual Elements (JOVE), Fuentek, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Resource Service (ARS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and National Cancer Institute (NCI).
