The Federal Government is preparing to impose a fine of N300 million on Royal Air Maroc for alleged infractions against passenger rights in Nigeria. The proposed sanction follows multiple complaints from passengers regarding the airline’s failure to comply with aviation regulations and standards.
According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the infractions include consistent delays, flight cancellations without adequate notice, and poor handling of passenger complaints. Officials stated that these breaches have caused significant inconvenience and financial losses to Nigerian travelers.
“The Federal Government is committed to ensuring that airlines operating in Nigeria adhere strictly to aviation rules and regulations. No airline will be allowed to undermine passenger rights or the integrity of our aviation industry,” an NCAA representative stated.

The proposed fine aims to serve as a deterrent to other airlines that may be tempted to flout regulations. The NCAA has also warned that failure by Royal Air Maroc to address these issues could lead to further sanctions, including suspension of its operating license in Nigeria.
Passenger advocacy groups have welcomed the government’s action, calling it a positive step toward holding airlines accountable. “It’s high time regulatory authorities enforced penalties for non-compliance. Nigerian travelers deserve better treatment,” a spokesperson for one advocacy group said.
Royal Air Maroc has yet to issue an official statement in response to the allegations and the impending fine. Industry observers believe the airline may seek to negotiate with the NCAA to resolve the matter amicably and avoid reputational damage.
The Federal Government’s move underscores its focus on improving the passenger experience and ensuring that all airlines operating in the country meet international standards. As the situation develops, stakeholders are watching closely to see how the airline addresses these claims and whether the measures will lead to better service delivery in the future.
