As a result of the ‘All Eyes on the Election Tribunal Judges’ billboards being green-lit, the Federal Government has liquidated the Secretariat of the ASP, the body responsible for regulating advertising standards.
Peter Obi’s supporters launched the narrative All Eyes on the Election Tribunal Judges as part of their campaign for the 2023 election. Obi was the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP.
Those running for office claim that judges have been instructed to rule in President Bola Tinubu’s favor.
According to the Federal Government, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal was trying to blackmail them with the ad.
The Director-General of the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON, Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, made the announcement in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to Fadolapo, the Council has suspended its Director and Deputy Director responsible for Regulations to make room for investigations.
It has been brought to the ARCON’s attention that there are “All Eyes on the Judiciary” billboards around the country. Since the ideas shown are not ASP-approved, the exposed content must be removed promptly and the offenders must face consequences.
The advertisement has the potential to stir up trouble and disrupt public order.
Since “The Advertising Standards Panel, ASP, Secretariat is hereby dissolved,” he continued, “the Director and Deputy Director, Regulations have also been suspended.”
