KoolBox, a Nigerian technology company specializing in sustainable energy solutions, has launched an innovative solar-powered cooling platform aimed at tackling the challenges of food spoilage and medical storage in Nigeria. The new platform offers affordable and reliable refrigeration options that operate entirely on solar energy, addressing frequent power outages and high electricity costs that limit access to conventional cooling systems.
The launch event, held recently in Lagos, showcased KoolBox’s solar refrigeration units designed for both households and small businesses. The company introduced flexible access models, allowing users to either exchange old electric refrigerators for solar-powered ones, convert existing units with solar technology, or purchase new solar refrigerators with affordable payment plans.

Ayoola Dominic, CEO of KoolBox, explained that the platform aims to reduce the massive losses caused by lack of refrigeration in the region, where food waste rates are high and many essential medicines require cold storage. He emphasized that providing sustainable cooling solutions will not only improve food security but also reduce carbon emissions associated with traditional cooling methods.
The solar cooling platform comes at a critical time as Nigeria faces ongoing challenges with unstable power supply and rising energy costs. By leveraging solar power, KoolBox hopes to make refrigeration more accessible and environmentally friendly, especially in rural and underserved areas.
This initiative is expected to support small-scale entrepreneurs, such as food vendors and healthcare providers, by helping them preserve products longer and reduce losses. With climate change increasing the urgency of sustainable energy solutions, KoolBox’s platform offers a promising step towards greener, more resilient communities in Nigeria.
