Dr. Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the North-west, has expressed concern that the ruling party’s popularity is waning due to the policies of President Bola Tinubu, which have reportedly increased hardships for Nigerians.
In a statement issued on Friday, Lukman warned that the APC could face rebellion if immediate action is not taken to address the situation.
He emphasized the need for APC leaders to return to their former role as visionary politicians and implement substantial political reforms to realign the party with its original progressive vision.

Lukman stated, “Given this reality, it is painful to admit that both the APC as a party and the government of President Asiwaju Tinubu are becoming increasingly unpopular with Nigerians.”
He also pointed out the weak political opposition to the APC and the lack of strong civil society organizations, which could potentially lead to a situation where there is no effective leadership to oppose the APC and President Tinubu, posing a threat to democracy.
“To avert such danger, it is important that our leaders return to their old mode of acting as visionary politicians and initiate deeply more substantive political reforms in the country to reposition the APC and return it to its founding vision of becoming a progressive political,” Lukman concluded.
