Phillip Shaibu, the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, has expressed vindication following a Federal High Court judgment that invalidated the Edo State governorship primary election.
In his reaction on Thursday to the judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, Shaibu stated that the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) primary election held on February 22, 2024, was merely a “tea party” without any legal standing.
Shaibu asserted that he had consistently criticized the PDP for undermining internal democracy through what he described as fraudulent practices during the primary election at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

The former Deputy Governor maintained that those who voted for him at his parallel primary were the genuine delegates, lawfully chosen by the people to nominate the PDP’s governorship candidate.
Regarding the All Progressives Congress (APC) courting him for defection, Shaibu remarked, “When you see a political party wooing people to its group, that party wants to win.
But when you see a party chasing people away as in the case of the PDP, that party is planning nothing but rigging of election.”
Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, in his judgment, invalidated the February 22 PDP primary election on the grounds that 378 delegates who were supposed to vote in the election were unlawfully excluded.
