Former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has taken legal action against his recent impeachment by filing a suit in the state High Court. This move comes after Oluomo’s silence following his sudden impeachment, as reported by the media.
The impeachment, which took place on Tuesday, was based on allegations of arrogance and highhandedness, among others.
Oluomo contends that his removal did not follow due process, prompting him to seek redress in court.

Oluomo, who is facing charges of alleged financial misappropriation amounting to N2.5 billion brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was impeached by 18 out of 26 members of the assembly.
In response to the allegations against him, Oluomo revealed that he has taken legal action against his colleagues, maintaining that his impeachment was unlawful.
He acknowledged that since his reelection as speaker for a second term, he has not enjoyed the support of his colleagues.
Speaking on his decision to seek legal recourse, Oluomo emphasized his belief in the rule of law and the importance of due process.
He stated, “I am a believer in the rule of law, that’s why I went to court. I don’t mind the number of persons who signed just to follow due process.”
The case has been scheduled for hearing on February 7th, with Oluomo expressing his commitment to pursuing peace through legal means.
He asserted, “I was looking for peace, and that is why I have gone to court to determine if they have the right to remove me the way they have done.”
