Just four more countries are still to arrive in South Africa for the African Nations Championship as the countdown to the tournament’s opening game on Saturday continues.

Only Burundi, Congo, Morocco and Uganda have not yet arrived although Morocco were due in Johannesburg late on Wednesday night after flying from Casablanca vuia Doha in Qatar.

Twelve sides are already in the country – Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique and Nigeria, plus the host nation’s team.

Uganda are due in on Thursday and will be almost straight into action on Sunday when they meet Burkina Faso in Group B in Cape Town.

Burundi do not kick off until Tuesday and are expected on Friday.

Nigeria arrived on Wednesday but some of the teams have been in the country since the New Year.

The Democratic Republic of Congo were the first of the competing countries to arrive before the turn of the year and have already run into trouble in Polokwane where their government needed to send cash to help pay their hotel bills after the delegation ran short of money, reports from Kinshasa said.
