Friends, Families, Pay Tribute To Late Iyetade, Wole Soyinka’s Daughter

Prof Wole Soyinka on Friday in Ibadan paid tributes to late Ms Iyetade Soyinka, first daughter of the Nobel laurel as she was buried in the Oyo State.

Iyetade, who was described by many as not selfish, died on Dec. 28, 2013, at the age of 48 at the University Teaching Hospital (UCH) after a quick illness and is survived by two children.

Rev. Olufikayo Oyelade, who spoke at the funeral services held at Chapel of the Resurrection, University of Ibadan, UI, asked believers to see death as an “eternity to live with Christ’’.

In a sermon titled “Death is Real’’, the reverend, charged the people to remember that death is real and everyone will have a taste of it.

“Death is real and the world we are is like a market, we come and go at different times, why then do we live as if we will not leave this world again,’’ he said.

Quoting from the bible verse of Ecclesiastsic Chapter 3 from verses 1 and Rev.6 Verse 7, said that God had harvested the seed He planted inside the late Iyetade.

He urged believers to see the need to accept Christ as the Lord and saviour and also see death as mysterious and real.

In a tribute, Dr Olaokun Soyinka, eldest brother and also the Commissioner of Health in Ogun, said that the late Iyetade brought a sense of order to his life. “I just always thought we will all always be around,’’ he said.

Also, Mr Ilemakin Soyinka, younger brother to the deceased described Iyetade as an understanding and caring mother and sister.

“My sister, you are unique, special and gifted. I don’t have the words; you are just you, and it is that you that I miss so much,’’ he said.

Dignitaries at the funeral included the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Ameachi, wife of the Ogun State Governor, Olufunke Amosun, former governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, and the wife of former president Mrs Bola Obasanjo. (NAN)
