Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has said he and several political associates in Kano State initially joined the party due to the influence of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, the former Kano State governor noted, however, that Kwankwaso has since become a “political drifter,” moving across different political platforms.

“We share the same political roots, having started in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Because of Kwankwaso, we joined the APC,” Ganduje said.
He added that Kwankwaso later left the party while others remained, describing his subsequent political movements as inconsistent.
“He left us there and began searching for a new political platform, eventually aligning with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), where he formed a government,” he said.
Ganduje further criticised Kwankwaso’s shifting affiliations, alleging that he frequently moves from one platform to another.
“He has become a political drifter; a political bird that can perch anywhere,” he added.
The former APC chairman also claimed that his political camp deployed strategies to regain control of the Kano State government from Kwankwaso’s influence.
Recent political developments indicate that Kwankwaso has moved across multiple parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), where he is reportedly aligning with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
