The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed hope that Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, former Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to former president Goodluck Jonathan, would give shocking details of transactions carried out in the last administration.
The Commission arrested Adegbe on Wednesday, February 10, in Lagos, over the ongoing investigation into the $2.1bn arms fraud, which was allegedly engineered by the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
According to recent reports, preliminary findings by the EFCC, including recovered documents, suggested a large-scale of questionable expenditure with funds sourced from and outside the arms purchase deals.
“Most of the funds were reportedly diverted soon after the election was postponed from the originally scheduled date of February 14, 2015 to March 28, 2015”, the newspaper quoted another source to have said.
It said a top official of an agency set up to discourage militancy in the South-South is one of the active participants of the alleged loot.
The hour-long interrogation of the former ADC was centred on the “mind-boggling spending” during the two weeks’ extension of the general election, “which runs into several trillions of naira, when converted from foreign currency,” the newspaper reported.
It was further revealed that many top Nigerians, “including some very close persons” to Jonathan may be invited by the EFCC to defend their roles in the handling of the funds.
Adegbe was reportedly arrested while attending a senior officers course in Lagos. he was said to have been moved to Abuja.
