Yesterday (February 25) there were reports all over the Internet claiming that Nigerian dancehall star Burna Boy, 24, was dropped by Nigerian telecommunication company GLO.
According to the rumours Burna Boy’s contract was terminated by GLO for bad public conduct. It was also said that gospel singer Sammie Okposo was also dropped by GLO as the telco is in a search for new faces.
Theinfostride reached out to Burna Boy’s representatives this morning concerning the story. According to Buki HQ that handles PR for the Spaceship Entertainment singer Burna Boy hasn’t been dropped by the Mike Adenuga led telecommunication outfit.
“We’ve not heard anything. We’ve not been called over to defend anything” Buki HQ exclusively said.
“Burna Boy recently renewed his contract which makes him a GLO ambassador until 2017” Buki HQ further stated. Theinfostride sent an e-mail GLO to comment on the rumours. “Please be informed that we are unable to assist with the query below” was the feedback we got.
In June 2015, Burna Boy renewed his 2013 endorsement deal with GLO. Burna Boy signed the extension contract on June 24, 2015 and revealed it on his Instagram account. “#GloAmbassador. Just renewed with Glo. #spaceshiplife more $$$$$$$. Bless” wrote the ‘Soke’ singer.
Burna Boy renewed his deal in the midst of an ambassadorial shake up in GLO which saw the endorsement deals of Naeto C and Lynxxx not renewed.
This week there have been strong speculations that Psquare would be dropped as ambassadors by GLO. Despite the rumours there have been no official statements from both camps.
The last 12 months have been commercially good for the singer known as Burna Boy. In August 2015, Burna Boy was revealed as a co-headliner of Hennessy Artistry alongside R&B singer Praiz, and top Nigerian rapper Vector.
Barely four months after Burna Boy shockingly signed an endorsement deal with Martell Cognac. “715 We The Martell Cartel!! Say hello to your official Martell Ambassador. #caractere #OAS #MARTELL. 2016 has already begun!!!” wrote the singer on December 29, 2015.
