In an effort to repair strained relations within the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has held a meeting with discontented National Assembly members of the party in Abuja.
The governor, in a post on his Facebook page, stated that the meeting was convened to discuss critical issues affecting both the state and the party.
Reliable sources revealed to Newsmen that the meeting included Senator AbduRahman Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South, and former Kano State Speaker and current member of the House of Representatives for Rano Federal Constituency, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, among others.

Both politicians were reportedly on the brink of leaving the NNPP.
Their dissatisfaction stems from the perceived overbearing influence of the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Governor Yusuf’s administration, as well as the demotion of their Emirates Councils to Second Class status.
Senator Sumaila, facing criticism from some party members for allegedly not contributing to the party’s success during the elections and legal battles, has been defending his record online.
He pointed out his defeat of Senator Kabiru Gaya to win the Kano South Senatorial District, a victory that was upheld even at the Supreme Court.
Similarly, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum has voiced his discontent with the government for downgrading the Emir of Rano, insisting that he still regards the Rano Emir as a First Class Emir.
Until Tuesday’s meeting, Governor Yusuf had remained silent on the escalating tensions.
The meeting, held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, marks his first public move to reconcile with the aggrieved NNPP leaders.
