Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has urged Nigerians to unite with the government in enhancing the welfare of ex-servicemen and the families of fallen heroes and heroines.
The Governor made this appeal at the launch of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal in Ilorin.
Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized the need to show appreciation to ex-servicemen by generously contributing to the well-being of their families.

He stated that such support is crucial in honoring the sacrifice of these heroes and ensuring that their loved ones do not suffer after their demise.
The Governor highlighted the significance of recognizing the contributions of ex-servicemen and women, stating that it would inspire current members of the Armed Forces to serve courageously.
He stressed that the fundraiser aims to provide assistance to families affected by wars, including the World Wars, the Nigeria Civil War, peacekeeping operations, and the Hercules C130 plane crash of 1992.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the efforts of the Nigerian Legion members in mobilizing funds annually to support their colleagues.
He assured them of the government’s commitment to providing support within available resources.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Social Development, Opeyemi Oluwakemi Folashade, reiterated the importance of recognizing the sacrifices of fallen heroes and providing support to their families.
She emphasized that the labor of the nation’s heroes should not be in vain.
Brigadier General Abdulkadir Anigiobi, State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, appealed to the government and well-meaning individuals to assist the families of fallen heroes and those incapacitated during wars.
He explained that the Armed Forces Emblem Appeal Fund aims to raise funds for the care of these families and individuals.
The launch of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal serves as a call to action for Nigerians to honor the sacrifices of ex-servicemen and women and ensure the well-being of their families, thereby upholding the legacy of Nigeria’s heroes past.
