Adamawa State’s governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has initiated an investigation into the alleged killing of a student by a security task team in the state.
Operation Farauta, a joint group of police and military officers tasked with reducing crime throughout the state, has been accused of torturing a 17-year-old kid named Abdullahi Abba, also known as Abdallah.
Abdallah apparently passed out as a result of torture and died on August 9 despite receiving hospital care for many days.

He was taken into custody on August 5 and brutally tortured after a suspicious neighbor reported his missing phone to the task force and accused the teen of stealing it.
On Friday, word reached the press that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had requested an investigation into Abdallah’s death from the state’s Commissioner of Police.
Fintiri’s reaction, according to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary Humwashi Wonosikou, comes after reports that members of Operation Farauta may have tortured Abdallah to death and are now trying to cover up the incident.
“Governor Fintiri who frowned at the unfortunate development has ordered the Police to begin an intensive investigation into the matter to take up the case against those involved if anything shady is discovered,” the statement read.
In the statement, the governor is quoted as saying, “The Governor is appealing for calm while an investigation is ongoing.”
The governor, it reads, shares the pain of the victims’ loved ones and pledges to see that justice is served for all citizens of Adamawa.
