Two people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following an attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias on the Wereng community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering over 100, invaded the community under the cover of darkness and began shooting indiscriminately. The victims, identified as residents of the area, were reportedly caught unaware as many fled into nearby bushes for safety.
One of the deceased, identified as Joshua Monday, was said to have died instantly, while the second victim succumbed to injuries while being taken to the General Hospital, Riyom.

Security sources confirmed that troops and other security operatives arrived at the scene shortly after the attack to restore order and prevent further violence.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alabo Alfred, for official comments were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off.
