Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has attributed his side’s comeback triumph to eliminate South Africa from the on-going Afcon to experience.
.
The Black Stars were on the brink of elimination after conceding through a 17th minute volley by Mhlandhla Masango but revived their chances of qualification after 73 minutes of play.
.
Centre-back John Boye, who replaced injured youngster Daniel Amartey, latched onto a loose ball with a low shot under goalkeeper Nhlanhla Khuzwayo to level matters.
.
Ghana continued to pile pressure on the South African defence and 10 minutes on were rewarded with the winner through an Andre Ayew header off Baba Rahman’s cross.
.
“We won this game purely by experience. I’ve played in five Afcon [tournaments] but this is definitely the toughest. I said it yesterday that mental toughness will win this game,” Gyan said to the press.
.
“We have young guys but you could tell the difference. With this team we can face any country in this competition because we are united and determined.”
.
“I will like to thank Ghanaians. Your support has been great. Thank you.”
.
Ghana have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2015 Afcon as Group C winners and will face the runners-up from Group D.
