Harry Kane can learn a lot from Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s intelligent positioning and ability to convert chances, according to former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur striker Teddy Sheringham.
Kane, 23, is only in his third full campaign with Spurs, while 35-year-old Ibrahimovic is in his 17th senior season and has won major honours with Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
And Sheringham says the England international should look to United’s veteran frontman as the player he can emulate.
“Harry is the epitome of an English centre-forward. He has a little bit of everything, which makes him an all-rounder,” Sheringham told the Daily Mail. “It is not just about scoring goals, he can do the other things, he can set people up, win headers, hold the ball up.
“Zlatan is the finished article, I reckon, where Harry would like to be in 10 years’ time. He has won major honours all around the world, and knows his game inside out, what he can and can’t do.
“He doesn’t get himself into positions that are foreign to him, he knows to stay in central areas and where the goal is. Again he is still a top player.
“If he can keep competing like he has done since he’s first come over here and scoring goals, it makes him a top player for me.”
Kane recently signed a new contract with Tottenham that will keep him at the club until 2022, and Sheringham thinks — despite having the ability to take his pick of the top clubs — that the England international is happy with life at White Hart Lane.
“All the top clubs in world football would have been interested in signing Harry Kane,” Sheringham said. “He could have gone anywhere for any amount of money but he is obviously loving — and you have to reiterate that — playing for Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino.
“Harry obviously likes where Tottenham are going at the moment and that’s what it is all about. He has ambitions, he is an England player and wants to play in top matches and big finals. He obviously thinks his club are going in the right direction for that.”
