When Arsenal went 2-0 down inside 15 minutes against Ludogorets in the Champions League on Tuesday, it had all the hallmarks of a classic Arsenal collapse.
On the first day of November, their bogey month of late, Arsenal were crumbling like autumn leaves on the ground. But their old habit of mixing stellar performances with major letdowns has been replaced this season by a pattern of producing results in games where they may have previously folded.
The 3-2 comeback win in Bulgaria was only the latest example of why many think there is something different about Arsenal this year.
It hasn’t always been as pretty as Mesut Ozil’s 88th-minute winner, though. So far, they’ve relied on two disputed injury-time winners and a handful of great goalkeeper saves to conjure up positive results.
It may be too soon to tell whether Arsenal are showing “the stuff of champions” or simply riding their luck and getting away with mistakes they were previously punished for. But when it happens this often, it’s certainly a sign that Arsene Wenger’s team have finally developed a consistent ability to deal with adversity.
