
At a press conference on Thursday (December 5) in Costa do Sauipe, Brazil, CAF President Issa Hayatou in his capacity as President of the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup reassured the ability of FIFA and Brazil to deliver a successful tournament come next June.
Hayatou made the declaration following a meeting of the Organising Committee for the FIFA World Cup on the eve of the final draw of the tournament.
Flanked by FIFA President, Joseph Sepp Blatter, Brazilian Deputy Minister of Sport, Luis Fernandes, President of the Local Organising Committee, Jose Maria Marin, FIFA Secretary General, Jerome Valcke; Hayatou told the media: “We cannot say that everything is ready, but in light of what has been done and said, the commitment of not only FIFA but the Brazilian government, there is a reason to believe that the World Cup is waiting around the corner.
“I can tell you that there is six months remaining for us to improve things and everything will be ready. We will organize in June a beautiful World Cup which will be satisfactory to all. We will spare no effort to make this World Cup was a great success,” said Hayatou.
Five African teams, Algeria, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria will represent the continent at next year’s Mundial.
