Henrikh Mkhitaryan may have damaged his medial knee ligament in a collision that forced him out of Thursday’s win over CSKA Moscow and could face several weeks on the sidelines, Arsene Wenger has said.
“He has a scan and the fear is that his medial knee ligament has been touched. We’ll know more about that soon. For how long he will be out, I don’t know,” Wenger told the Arsenal website.
The Arsenal manager also confirmed that Mkhitaryan could be out for several weeks if those fears are confirmed.
“I fear yes, I hope I’m wrong,” Wenger said.
That means the midfielder could face a race against time to be fit for the Europa League semifinals — assuming Arsenal avoid a massive slip-up in the second leg against Moscow next week.
The first leg of the semifinals is scheduled for April 26.
