The member representing Langtang-North/Langtang-South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Beni Lar, has said Fulani cattle breeders, who are responsible for the nation’s supply of beef, deserve grazing reserves.
“Cattle breeders need an area that is well irrigated where they can feed their cattle so that they will in turn feed Nigerians. Meat is very important to all of us”, she said.
Lar, who is Chairman, House Committee on Human Rights, made this known while addressing journalists in Jos, Plateau State, over last Sunday’s clash in her constituency between herdsmen and farmers.
She noted that properly demarcated and nourished grazing reserves across the country would check the incessant conflicts between herdsmen and farmers.
The lawmaker, who faulted comments attributed to some people that Fulani cattle breeders should not be allotted land for grazing, said: “All who eat meat should be considerate enough to let go of their land for the source of the meat. Nigeria is blessed with enough land for everybody, and Nigerians should be gracious enough to recognize that the meat that the herdsman provides is for the community”.
