Manchester United may have finished sixth in the Premier League but Ander Herrera believes the Red Devils can be pleased with their first season under Jose Mourinho.
United missed out on the top four but secured their place in next season’s Champions League after beating Ajax in the final of the Europa League on Wednesday.
The Old Trafford club also claimed both the EFL Cup and Community Shield earlier in the campaign and Herrera believes that is more than enough to classify this season as a success.
‘There are a lot of good things to take from this season,’ Herrera told the club’s official website.
‘We’ve won trophies; the Community Shield against Leicester, who were probably the most famous team in the world at the time! What they did last season was amazing, of course.
‘We also beat Southampton in the League Cup final, it was an amazing game, and it was great to win in the last few minutes.
‘Of course, this club is about trophies – if I have to choose moments, I’d always choose trophies.’
Herrera has enjoyed arguably his best season for United since joining from Athletic Bilbao in 2014.
The 27-year-old was voted the club’s Player of the Year earlier this month and has now been linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
‘Winning the award is a big thing for me and I’m very happy to get it because, when you see the history of the winners, you realise the amazing players who won it,’ said the Spain international.
‘I’m happy to be a part of that; it’s not easy to win that trophy for a club like this one. The votes from the fans push me to keep fighting and giving everything for United.’
