I Am Ready To Adapt – Victor Lindelof

LINDELOFSIGNSVictor Lindelof has told Aftonbladet he is ‘”ready to adapt” to the pressure of playing for one the world’s biggest clubs after completing his move from Benfica to Manchester United.

Lindelof, 22, has cost the Premier League club a reported fee of €35 million and signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford.

The centre-back, who has won 12 full caps for Sweden, also revealed that manager Jose Mourinho had helped persuade him to swap Lisbon for Manchester.

“I’m proud and happy to have been given this chance, but I need a few days so that everything calms down,” Lindelof said. “Then I’ll be even happier.

“I’m very happy. Everything happened quickly, it’s been a hectic day. To come to the Premier League, and one of the world’s biggest clubs, it’s a lot to take in. But it’s really a dream come true.

“There has been so much [rumours and speculation], I’m just glad it’s finished and that I’m sitting here today. I’m glad I don’t have to answer those questions [about his future] and don’t need to evade them. That feels great.”

The player also insisted that talk about the size of the transfer fee doesn’t concern him.

“I don’t think about that,” he added. “I don’t think it’s good to do so. I’m here to play football and perform as well as possible for Manchester United.

“I don’t keep track of that, it’s not something I spend time on. It’s not important to me. It just means you’ve done something good and that the club really wanted me.”

Lindelof also explained how Mourinho had sold his vision of the future to him.

“Yes, we talked on the phone,” he added. “He told me about the club and everything around it. He also talked about how he views me and that he wants me at the club.”

“You have pressure everywhere. There was a lot of pressure in Portugal, and it will get bigger now at one of the world’s biggest clubs. But that’s really nice as well, very inspiring.

“But wherever you play you have to adapt to your new environment, it doesn’t matter if it’s in Germany, Italy or Spain. I look forward to it and trust my qualities, so I think it will turn out well.”
