Amid the current border crisis that has stripped countless children from their families, several celebrities have used their platforms to stand up for immigrant rights, including Nicki Minaj, who joined in on the conversation with a heartfelt message about her personal experience as an immigrant in America.
“I came to this country as an illegal immigrant @ 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5,” Minaj — who came to America from her birthplace of Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago — wrote on Instagram.
Minaj continued: “This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again…”
Trump recently signed an executive order putting a stop to the separation of families at the border. “It’s about keeping families together while ensuring we have a very powerful, a very strong border and border security will be equal if not greater than previously,” he said during a press conference. He added, “I didn’t like the sight or the feeling of families being separated.”
