Spain forward Ferran Torres has dedicated his World Cup-winning goal against Argentina to his fellow citizens. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
Declaring that his strike was for 47 million people, not just him or his teammates, Torres stated that it was written in the stars that Spain would clinch another World Cup after 16 years.
Ferran added that despite facing tough opponents throughout the tournament, the Spanish players never doubted the team’s ability.
His words, “Ultimately, the goal belongs to 47 million people — not just me or the 26 players.
It was written in the stars that we would win far away from our people, yet we made them feel as close as possible.
It’s a huge sense of relief. I faced a lot of criticism during the World Cup, but destiny is written. Thank God, who always gives me the strength to keep going.
At the end of the day, all finals are tough. When you’re up against (Lionel) Messi, there’s a certain nervousness, but we always believed in our football and in ourselves.”
