Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin has denied reports that he participated in the alleged padding of the 2016 budget.
Jibrin also admitted that the situation had been made more complicated by his long silence.
“Well, I wasn’t part of the insertions but I think I also didn’t help myself because I started speaking quite late. The event that pushed me to start talking doesn’t look too attractive to people because they are saying why am I talking now that I have left the position,” he said during an interview on Channels TV which aired on Sunday, July 31, 2016.
“There is corruption in the house of Representatives. There is institutional corruption and these are things I can prove. I have never been in any act corruption. I have never shared money in the National assembly. Never!” he added.
Jibrin has accused Speaker, Yakubu Dogara of spearheading the padding of the budget, a claim which Dogara has repeatedly denied.
Dogara has also threatened legal action against Jibrin, who started making the revelations after he was removed as appropriation chair on July 20.
