Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, has opened up on her struggle and the sacrifices she made to become one of the top entertainers in Nigeria.
Speaking at 4th edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC) held on April 20, 2016, at Landmark Event Centre, Oniru, Lagos, Akindele said she was able to fund her “Jenifa’s Diary” project through money saved from her endorsements.
She said, “I used my endorsement money to start ‘Jenifa’s Diary’.”
Akindele also made an important note about perseverance and success. She linked her thoughts to how her comedy drama “Jenifa’s Diary’’ became a main attraction on TV.
“When I started Jenifa’s Diary. I went to an agency, which I won’t mention. I thought they will be ready to do business with me because Jenifa to me was huge, but they asked me for my pilot.”
“I had to go back to shoot 6 episodes and I started to market it all over again before I could get advert for it.”
“Today it’s huge, it’s on Iroko Tv and people keep asking for more episodes. Keep pushing, do it well and be careful about the contracts you sign.”
Akindele has successfully made a big deal out of the drama series, which has seen appearances from top entertainers such as Falz, Banky W, Waje, Beverly Osu, Lota Chukwu, Alex Ekubo, Ali Nuhu, Toke Makinwa, Juliana Olayode, Falz, Amaechi Muonagor and Wunmi Obe.
