The world’s richest man, Elon Musk has come out to open up about the worst year of his life. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, his first years as CEO of the company were by far the most difficult, and 2008 was especially a nightmare year for Tesla and SpaceX, and even his personal life because of his divorce.
Musk added that he is very fortunate that the fourth launch of SpaceX reached orbit, because if it had failed, SpaceX would be dead for sure.
His words, “Technically I was CEO from mid-2007, officially CEO in late-2008,”
“Man, that was a lot of drama. That was a nightmare year.”
“Part way through that year, Space X had failed its third launch, and I only ever thought we had money for three launches. We were zero for three launches with Space X.”
“My marriage had fallen apart, so I’m getting divorced. The Tesla financing round was falling apart, and we’re nowhere near production. And we have the Great Recession.”
“Good times. Extremely brutal to say the least – the lowest of the lows.”
“Fortunately the fourth launch of SpaceX reached orbit,”
“If that fourth launch had failed, SpaceX would be dead, for sure. And then we closed the Tesla financing round on the last hour of the last day that it was possible, which was 6 p.m., Dec. 24, 2008. Crazy.”
