IGP Kayode Egbetokun has ordered a crackdown on the attackers responsible for the deaths of at least eight security personnel in Imo State on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen invaded the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, killing many security personnel. The victims worked for the police, the military, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
A video that has gone viral claims that the security officers were murdered and their patrol car was set on fire.

A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday condemned the attack and promised that those responsible would be apprehended and brought to justice.
According to the statement, the attackers ambushed the victims as they were responding to a phony distress call.
The statement says, in part, that “the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Egbetokun has, however, assured the public that the NPF is fully committed to collaborating closely with other relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this heinous act while relentlessly pursuing the cause of justice.”
He urges the people to be calm and watchful while promising that the Force will increase its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the protection of our personnel and the security of our communities.
He went on to call for the public’s assistance in law enforcement’s efforts to restore order in Imo State and the country as a whole.
Equally, Acting Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun sent his condolences and prayers to the families of the heroes who had lost their lives, assuring them that their loved ones’ deaths would not have been in vain.
