Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy says he is not allowed to participate in shooting practice during training.
Vardy, 29, has played a major role in Leicester’s Premier League title challenge this season, with his 21 goals helping the club sit seven points clear at the top of the table with just five games left to play.
However, the England international has revealed he is not permitted to practice his shooting skills during the week as Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri would prefer him to rest up in preparation for the club’s next game.
“I don’t really get the chance to practice that much on my finishing because we have our shooting drills early in the week when the gaffer’s wanting me to rest my legs,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
“So normally, when there’s a bit of shooting, the gaffer tells me to go inside. I’ll keep doing that if it means I’m saving my legs — and goals — for games.”
Vardy added that Leicester’s success this season is down to the team spirit that Ranieri has helped foster since taking over last summer.
“We are always laughing,” he said. “It’s the same group of characters we had at the start of the season, and to be honest with you, that’s the good thing about us. It’s a squad and we are tight-knit.
“That’s how we have been from day one. We’re only looking ahead to the next game, the next week. That’s all we have done all season, one game at a time.”
