The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal, says President Muhammadu Buhari is fully committed to improving the lives of youths in the country.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Dr. Amina Shamaki, Lawal added that the Buhari-led government remained committed to improving the lives of young Nigerians to help them to realise their full potentials.
He spoke during the presentation of National Lottery Intervention Sports Equipment to 48 public primary schools across Sokoto State.
He added that sports remained a bridge builder aside its economic benefits.
“The government’s interest in sports has encouraged the local manufacturing of sports equipment and products in Nigeria.
“To this end, I am pleased to acknowledge the production of international quality football by the National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NARICT), Zaria in Kaduna State.
“I congratulate the beneficiaries of the intervention, including People Living with Disabilities.
”I am sure you are fully aware that this government is committed to improving the lives of young Nigerians in order to enable them realise their full potentials.
“Helping them to refocus their energies toward participating actively in sports will go a long way in boosting their morale and self esteem,” he said.
Executive Secretary, National Lottery Trust Fund, Mr Habu Gumel, said the ceremony was simply a manifestation of the Presidents’ commitment to sports development even at the grassroots.
Gumel added that the sports equipment will be distributed to all the states of the federation.
Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr Adolphus Joe, represented by the State Coordinator, Alhaji Aminu Sule, said “lottery is one of the numerous ways of generating revenue for the government.
“Lottery is aimed at creating and redistributing wealth.”
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 111, represented by the Ciroman Sokoto, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar 111, called on individuals and organisations to emulate the gesture.
The Minister of Trade and Investment, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, said sports improved the mental concentration and better academic performance of youths.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, represented by the Head of Service of Sokoto State, Dr Buhari Kware, said that getting children to participate in sports remained a priority of the administration.
He called for appreciation of the Buhari-led administration for setting the pace.
