The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, has fixed Saturday, November 7, 2026, for the conduct of the state’s local government council elections.
The commission announced the new date following the postponement of the election, which was initially scheduled for September 26, 2026. The decision also followed consultations with the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in the state.

ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, disclosed the new date in a statement, adding that the commission would soon convene an expanded stakeholders’ meeting.
According to him, the meeting would provide an opportunity to present the amended electoral timetable and guidelines necessitated by the postponement.
The commission apologised to political parties, chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, stakeholders and residents of the state over the inconvenience caused by the earlier postponement.
ISIEC said it remained committed to conducting peaceful, transparent and credible elections across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.
The rescheduled poll comes amid legal challenges surrounding the earlier electoral process, with some political actors questioning aspects of the commission’s timetable and preparations. The pending legal issues could remain relevant as preparations for the November 7 election continue.
