Impeachment: Stop Looking To APC Leaders For Solution – Nasarawa Senator Counsels Al-Makura

The Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Suleiman Adokwe, has advised the embattled state governor, Alhaji Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to reconcile with members of the state House of Assembly instead of looking to the leaders of the All Progressives Congress for solution to the intractable political crisis in the state.

Adokwe, who made this position known in a chat with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, also denied allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party had been behind the plot to unseat the governor and his other APC colleagues in the country.

Adokwe noted that the alleged failure of Al-Makura to lure the state lawmakers to APC or to live in harmony with them was the source of the current political crisis.

He said, “That he has been there up till this moment is because the PDP was mature and tolerant. If the PDP leaders in the state and some of us have not been contributing to the peace moves in the state, Al-Makura would have been removed long ago.

“The PDP stalwarts at the national level stood by him, otherwise, he would have been removed. So, it would be total ingratitude for them (the governor’s aides) to allege that PDP want him out.

“If we want him out, it is very easy for us. But we feel that impeachment should be the last resort until things are very bad. In this case, the PDP is not out for him, it is just the problem between him and the House of Assembly.

“Instead of running round the country and weaving sentiments from the APC, he should rather reconcile with the lawmakers because APC cannot save him in Nasarawa State”.

The senator attributed the political crisis in the state to a breakdown of communication between Al-Makura and the lawmakers, who are mostly PDP members.

He said, “Wherever there is a strong indications of impeachment proceedings, it is a failure of communication between the executive and the legislature; there could be a lot of nuances among them that nobody is emphasising.

“Anytime that our brothers there bring to our notice their intention for impeachment, we always persuade them against it because nothing is beyond dialogue but this time around, they went underground and they did not consult anybody.

“It is entirely their own business and they have the right to do so because they are the legislators of the state, who work daily with the governor. They know what he does and what he omits. Both parties should do the needful to give peace a chance to reign in the state. No amount of going outside would solve the problem”.
