Incredible Leak At Apple Exposes Stunning iPhone Upgrade

This year’s new Apple iPhone design promises some long awaited features that will help Apple’s totemic smartphone to stand out from the crowd, offer an enticing upgrade to existing owners, and to catch up with one of the key advantages currently enjoyed by Android users.

The new secret sauce will be in the screen, and the latest look at the technology shows Apple is finally addressing a point of physical contention.

The details come from noted Apple source Macotakara, Obtaining a mockup of the upcoming iPhone 13 is a significant moment, Mockups are used by many peripheral manufacturers for checking external fit and fixtures, as the external dimensions and I/O are clearly visible. The biggest change is in the screen notch. Apple has finally cut the size to provide more screen real estate. BGR’s Yoni Hesler:

“Confirming previous reports, a new dummy mockup of the iPhone 13 obtained by Macotakara shows that Apple’s next-gen iPhone, as rumored, will boast a slightly smaller notch. The mockup depicted below is of the iPhone 13 Pro; so it remains to be seen if every single model in Apple’s 2021 iPhone lineup will feature a smaller notch.”

Given the disruption to last year’s iPhone 12 series; many believe that iPhone had to focus on either 5G or improved screens for the iOS powered smartphones. Given the importance of data connectivity and no doubt demands from carriers; the iPhone 12 models were the first to support 5G.

The new screen technology that many expected in the pre-COVID world did not make an appearance in 2020. 2021 though? That’s a different matter. Faster refreshing screens with throttleable rates; always on standby screens; brighter vibrant colours; and more are all on deck ready to step up to the plate.

And yes, that includes the smaller notch. From the mockup, it looks like Apple is following the lead of a number of Android manufacturers in moving the top speaker into the bezel area. That frees up space in the notch and the iPhone 13 design, rather than add more sensors, has simply removed the excess material and handed it back to the screen.

Macotakara’s modck-up is of the iPhone 13 Pro, so there’s no confirmation on the other models; but with the unified design language I would expect the regular iPhone 13, the 13 Pro, and the 13 Pro Max; to all return with the smaller notch. Even the iPhone Mini is expected to return; although with the pricing constraints on that model, it may not be a clean sweep of smaller notches across the family.
