The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Anambra State governorship election will hold on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this on Thursday while addressing representatives of political parties at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
“As you are aware, the last governorship election in Anambra State was held on 6th November 2021.

By the effluxion of time, the governorship election is due next year,” Yakubu stated.
He explained that the official notice for the election will be published on November 13, 2024, in line with the mandatory 360-day notice requirement. Party primaries will be conducted between March 20 and April 10, 2025.
Yakubu further revealed the timeline for candidate nominations, saying, “The candidate nomination portal will open at 9:00 am on April 18, 2025, and close at 6:00 pm on May 12, 2025. The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025.
Campaign activities are scheduled to begin on June 11, 2025, and will end by midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
“Voting will take place in all 5,720 polling units across the state on Saturday, November 8, 2025,” Yakubu added.
He also highlighted upcoming electoral preparations, including voter registration updates and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“The detailed Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will be uploaded to our website and social media platforms before the end of this meeting,” he concluded.
