The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern over the failure of residents in Kano State to collect more than 360,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) currently in its custody.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ambassador Abdu Zango, disclosed this on Saturday while receiving members of a committee set up by the Kano State Government to drive awareness on the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, is tasked with sensitising residents on the importance of collecting their PVCs and participating actively in the electoral process.

Ambassador Zango called on the committee to intensify its campaign, stressing that the uncollected cards remain safely in INEC’s custody.
He commended the Kano State Government for setting up the awareness body, noting that its diverse composition and leadership under Waiya would help achieve the desired impact.
He also pledged INEC’s readiness to cooperate fully with the committee in mobilising eligible voters for both registration and collection of PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the state government, Comrade Waiya explained that the committee was established by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to ensure broad engagement with various groups, including opposition parties, in order to promote inclusive participation.
Waiya further appealed to INEC to consider increasing the number of polling units in Kano to reduce congestion and improve voting efficiency during elections.
The development highlights growing concern about voter apathy in the state, with stakeholders warning that failure to collect PVCs could disenfranchise a significant number of eligible voters.
